Over
the Edge on the Wales Trails
Mountain Biking Place
2 Place Epic Tour
The Trails in Wales are officially among the
best in the World. A consistently high scoring ‘report
card’ from IMBA (International Mountain Biking
Association) attracts riders from all over the world
to experience riding so good they keep coming back
for more. The great thing is, because the man made
trails here are so well constructed, you can ride
them in virtually any weather and they are open all
year. Whether you love super technical hand carved
descents, open and flowing singletrack, epic natural
riding with just the wildlife for company, Wales
has every ride you have ever dreamed of. Our tour, which follows to some extent the 'Transwales' event route,
takes in the very best of the riding that North & Mid
Wales has to offer, using awesome natural riding
to link the best of the man made trail centres together.
This tour really is the best of both worlds, with
both rides and scenery that will take your breath
away.
Day One
Arrival
You’ll be met by minibus taxi at Manchester
Airport and taken to your Hotel near Aberystwyth.
We’ll meet you there before dinner, go through
a bike safety check and explain what you can expect
the next week to hold in store.
Day Two
Nant-yr-Arian
Trail Centre
We start our tour at the most natural and
flowing of the centres, Nant–yr-Arian, and
spend a day riding a combination of wonderful natural
trails and man made flowing singletrack. After
lunch you’ll be offered a coaching session
from Stuart Wright, who helped us put this great
tour together. Stuart is a qualified MTB leader
and coach and will happily help you brush up your
skills to help you get the very best out of the
weeks riding, safely!
Day Three
Nant-yr-Arian
to Machynlleth
Today we leave the manmade waymarked trails
behind and head for Machynlleth. Our route today
is all natural, in places very remote with some
awesome scenery and trails. The area has been called
a green desert; there’s no-one there but
us. There’s a climb to start our day and
a great descent into Machynlleth to end it. As
we reach our hotel tonight you will certainly have
earned your dinner.
Day Four
Machynlleth
to Dolfannog
This morning we
ride to one of the area’s
best loved trails, the
famous ClimachX. This
fantastic route flows
and swoops on singletrack
and is guaranteed to
have you laughing out
loud. Just as you think
it must be nearly over,
it plummets you onto
a 4km long uninterrupted
forest trail which gets
mighty technical! It’s
an awesome trail but
we appreciate it might
not suit everyone so
the last section can
be avoided if you wish.
After lunch we’ll
continue our journey
over natural terrain
and end our day with
a climb up to Dolfannog
at the foot of Cadair
Idris. We’ll overnight
in a beautiful little
B&B with wonderful
food, fine wines and
every comfort.
Day Five
Dolfannog
to Dolgellau
Another amazing
day sees us facing a
beautiful rugged mountain,
Cadair Idris which peaks
at 893m and is said to
be haunted! Depending
on the weather and group
ability we’ll either
head over it or around
it to reach our destination
for this evening, the
market town of Dolgellau.
Tonight’s Hotel
used to be the county
jail 200 years ago and
the restaurant is still
very atmospheric, a great
little place.
Day Six
Dolgellau to Coed-y-Brenin Trail Centre
After 4 amazing but sometimes tough days riding we reckon you deserve a morning off so we’ll leave you to explore locally until this afternoon when we’ll head for the famous trail centre that started it all in Wales, the wonderful, recently revamped Coed-y-Brenin. If we have time, and energy, we’ll ride a while before heading to our nearby hotel.
Day Seven
Coed-y-Brenin
This is one of the best trail centres in the world and we're here all day. We have more than 100km of waymarked all weather trails to choose from and there is something for all tastes from climbs to smooth flowing singletrack and amazing technical trails that appear never ending and leave you with a huge grin. There is a brand new visitors centre too, with showers, a bike shop and a wonderful cafe. We can even wash our bikes when we've finished, ready for home.
Day Eight
Departure
Your bike bags will have been transported to our hotel and this morning it's time to pack up. The minibus will collect you from the hotel and take you back to Manchester Airport for your onward journey home.
There is something on this tour to inspire every Mountain biker, whether you’ve been riding for 6 months or 20 years. The natural riding makes you feel as if you’re the only person alive, the trail centres are like nothing you will have ever experienced. The views are spectacular, wildlife is abundant and the sight of the seldom seen Red Kite soaring is alone worth the tour.
This is a tour you will want to repeat, a tour that makes you so glad you are a mountain biker, a tour that will take you Over the Edge.
This tour is primarily aimed at riders from outside the UK but, as with all our tours, everyone is welcome.
The tour will be conducted in English.
